About the Centre Jacques Delors

All you need to know about the European Information Centre Jacques Delors

Founded in 1995 as a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG), the European Information Centre Jacques Delors became part of the Directorate-General for European Affairs of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2008. The Centre's general objective is to provide relevant information about the European Union to its citizens in Portuguese.

 

Taking into account the Centre's mission and the promotion of its objectives, the Centre develops various activities, initiatives and projects, such as:

Eurocid Website

 

The Eurocid Website acts as a linkage point between Portuguese citizens and information in Portuguese with the objective of bringing the European Union closer to its citizens. The website provides information divided into topics seeking to reflect different aspects of the Centre's activities.

 

Newsletter

 

The Newsletter of the European Information Centre Jacques Delors is free of charge and arrives directly to the e-mails of users registered at the Eurocid Portal. An html page containing links, photos, icons and animated images of current EU activities, the activities of the Centre, and national and international programmes and competitions is sent monthly.


Additionally, broadcasts with structured information on key topics and ongoing campaigns in the European Union are sent periodically.

Jacques Delors Library

 

The Jacques Delors Library, located in the Dean´s Office of the University of Lisbon, specializes in European topics and seeks to respond to the information needs of citizens while simultaneously introducing literature, national and international, on the European Union.

Infoeuropa is an electronic library (e-library) that contains all the documents available at the Jacques Delors Library in a digital format.

Management Partnership

 

In 2008, the European Commission together with the Portuguese Government established, through the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a management partnership in order to respond to the information needs of the Portuguese citizens regarding the European Union. Through this partnership, the Commission delegates some of its competencies to the Centre, the Intermediate Body of the European Commission designated to promote information and communication about European Union's policies in Portugal.

International Career Opportunities

 

Through the "International Career Opportunities" website, the Centre provides a range of services that aim to contribute to the strengthening of the Portuguese presence in the institutions and bodies of the European Union and other international organizations, such as the UN, and simultaneously expand the range of job opportunities for people looking for an internship, their first employment or the possibility to further develop their professional experience abroad.

Business Opportunities in the European Union

 

The Centre created the "Business Opportunities in the European Union" website to promote greater awareness among Portuguese companies regarding tenders issued by the institutions and bodies of the European Union. The aim is to increase the number of applications by national SME to tenders issued by the institutions and bodies of the EU and to increase the number of applications for financial support available to businesses.

Social Networks

 

Reflecting the belief that in order for our communication to be effective and for it to reach diverse and varied audiences, we can not disregard the importance of social networks. To this end, our Centre has an active presence on Facebook and LinkedIn. The Centre uses these tools to complement and support the exercise of our competencies with particular regard to the dissemination of information regarding the EU and European affairs. The Jacques Delors Library is present on Facebook where it disseminates literary information (academic and non-academic) regarding the EU.

Publishing

 

Throughout the years our Centre has cultivated a publishing presence with the aim of contributing knowledge of pertinent European topics to develop a more informed participatory citizenry interested in the European project. The publishing project simultaneously aims to promote the emergence of relevant articles about EU affairs in Portuguese.


 

Pedagogical Instruments

 

Since its establishment, our Centre has developed a diverse set of teaching instruments about specific European topics that are chosen annually in accordance with the European Union's priorities for the set year. The purpose of these instruments is to awaken the interest of youth and the general public in participating in European integration. The target audience are primary and secondary school students and their teachers.
